PeeknPoke or Lee's PeeknPoke or even Lee's
Peek "n" Poke (nice!) was created by Lee Bolton in Feb 2000. Taking its
name on a slant by Dave's arcade classics (A classic classic retro site
if ever there was one!) and based its ideas from said site (news about
retro stuff around the net but with a UK style, something which was not
present at the time) Alarmingly and oddly (oi!) PeeknPoke took off
and had many visitors over the next year which resulted in a daily
update. This was in the gold era of the internet days of retro games -
all the MAME roms you could eat, new emulators every day! and something
to look forward too was always just around the corner. New emulators
became a treat such as the massive Retrocade that could play Star Wars
at full pelt - Glory days indeed. and there was always MAME.
Around 2003 something odd happened -
emulator makers seem to give up the brave fight with only MAME making
its head above the storm. Atari 2600 roms were all but found (many
prototypes were being found it felt like daily) and there was a horrible
surge of ports called plug in and play - ugh! PeeknPoke packed its case
and ran up its own arse - until it was turned into some sort of internet
magazine and a new release was called Issues. what?
So with a heady heart - its back - sort of
like it was - but better (I Hope) Glory days are back in town.
